RESONSIBILITIES:
Leading and oversee the day-to-day details of manufacturing operations including coordination and cooperation with Engineering, Facilities Engineering & Management, Quality, Purchasing and Production Scheduling and ensuring that both deadlines are met and that standards are upheld.
Drive continuous improvement of the manufacturing process to reduce cost or increase production capacity - Establish and communicate continuous improvement goals that include cost reduction, yield improvements, inventory reduction, increased productivity, reduced cycle time, on-time shipments, safety, housekeeping, and other identified performance indicators.
Build and Drive a High-Performing Manufacturing Team - Reviews staff performance and sets leadership improvement goals for each direct report, based upon strength and weakness reviews. Works with HR to build the proper team in terms of numbers, positions, and hard & soft skills. Participates in the definition of Ames Culture, communicates company mission, vision, values, expectations, and performance results to promote and reinforce teamwork, inclusion, information sharing, and general company culture values, behaviors, and other company policies.
Drive company’s manufacturing revenue streams
Co-manage Materials Sourcing – while the sourcing team reports directly to the Director of Finance & Accounting, the Director of Production works tightly with the sourcing team to ensure coordinated plans for managing inventory levels consistent with inventory targets, cash flow, and production schedules on a weekly basis.
Avoid halted production due to lacking materials is key to maintaining monthly revenue targets.
Create and execute operating and capital plans and budgets and monitor performance against plans, budgets and KPI’s. - Lead seamless implementation of product introduction and changes into Operations while staying within budget constraints for the individual projects. Support New Product Development efforts via process & tooling support.
Prepare reports and performs analysis of information or data as required.
Communicate with Teammates regarding business performance, including sales, profits, quality, efficiency, safety, housekeeping, and other issues of importance.
Establish production and quality control measures to ensure established standards are being met.
Plan and direct production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors. Meets routings and bill of material standards, while continuously working to improve quality and reduce reject rates.
Review and analyze production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems.
Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
Revise production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems.
Create or refine systems to minimize error or bolster productivity by directing engineering personnel to support. Methods for improvement and approaches may include Lean Manufacturing, Six-Sigma, Six “S” or JIT (just-in-time).
Serve as a coach and mentor to teammates ensuring that training needs for are assessed and deployed in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures. Training may include such topics as risk mitigation, safety protocols, conflict management, leading a team, usage of new equipment, and industry best practices.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field.
10+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to strategically direct the company’s manufacturing unit in line with the CEO’s vision, setting plans for products, processes, and factory relationships with the goal of increasing efficiency and profitability.
Manage the production team to coordinate and cooperate smoothly with engineering, facilities engineering & management, quality assurance, and technology/product development; therefore, the need to possess exceptional people, planning, scheduling, negotiation facilitation, coordination, and organization skills that will result in a team’s ability to successfully execute on and meet project deadlines through regular meetings with managers and setting of key indicators for evaluating performance.
Collaborate with Production Development, Sales, Business Development, R&D / Technology, and Engineering in the design and development of new products; specifically, during the creation of the first prototype to assess impact on processes and quality before devoting resources to large-scale production. Lead seamless implementation of product introduction and changes into Manufacturing while staying within budget constraints for the individual projects.
