San JoseLHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a client to hire a Payroll Lead for a contract opportunity in San Jose, California. In this role, you will fulfill a crucial role in managing and overseeing the payroll function. You will ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for moe than 250 employees, as well as serving as a subject matter expert for the Workday payroll system. To succeed you must have a deep understanding of payroll processes, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of payroll accuracy.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and manage the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee payments on a regular schedule.
Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and issues, providing excellent customer service to employees and stakeholders.
Utilize your expertise in Workday payroll to effectively navigate the system, troubleshoot issues, and implement process improvements.
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure seamless integration and accurate data exchange between systems.
Review and audit payroll data for accuracy, including employee timesheets, benefits, deductions, and tax withholdings.
Prepare and process payroll adjustments, corrections, and special payments as necessary.
Stay current with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations to ensure compliance in all payroll processes.
Generate various payroll reports and provide insights to management as needed.
Assist with year-end processes, including W-2 preparation and tax reporting.
Lead and mentor payroll team members, providing guidance and training as necessary.
DESIRED SKILLS & BACKGROUND
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in payroll processing, with a strong focus on Workday payroll administration.
In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
Strong proficiency in using payroll software and systems, with advanced expertise in Workday.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to reconcile and audit payroll data effectively.
Exceptional organizational and time-management skills to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and interact with employees at all levels.
Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role is preferred.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus.
